AAL and the American Institute of Dental Public Health Teach Strategies for Success in Academic Healthcare Leadership to the Next Generation
The Academy for Advancing Leadership in partnership with the American Institute of Dental Public Health and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas convenes the Academic Leadership for Residents Program in Atlanta, GA.
ATLANTA, Oct. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- This month's Academic Leadership for Residents (ALR) Program hosted an intimate group of 13 residents from eight academic institutions. This four-day interactive program took place at AAL's training facility, Piedmont Center North, in Atlanta from September 16-19, 2018.
Distinguished speakers representing leadership from health professions and higher education showcased evidence-based methods and strategies for: emotional intelligence, wellness in leadership, reframing academic leadership, strategic planning, conflict management, negotiating and influencing decisions, designing and conducting educational research, building academic careers, using differences constructively, and resiliency.
"Supported in part by HRSA, ALR is one of AIDPH's internships that seeks to promote careers in academics," explained Dr. David Cappelli, AIDPH Executive Director, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at UNLV School of Dental Medicine. "The program is designed to prepare residents for academic career opportunities with the goal of increasing the academic healthcare workforce."
AAL Vice President Felicia Tucker-Lively also reflected on the program: "This experiential internship is a thought-provoking and empowering learning experience enabling residents to examine critical concepts for academic leadership and discover transformative strategies for lifelong learning."
