Choose the Right Air Conditioner This Summer
Coral Springs, FL (PRWEB) June 25, 2014 -- Summer is in full swing in Florida, and that means many will be searching for a refuge from the high temperatures. Air conditioning units can provide much-needed relief from the heat by keeping homes and buildings cool and comfortable. Air America Air Conditioning wants to help customers choose the best air conditioning systems for their homes this summer by informing them about SEER ratings.
SEER, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, rates the seasonal efficiency of air conditioners and refrigeration equipment. The higher the SEER rating, the better. This is because it will cost less to keep a home cool, saving customers money on annual utility costs.
There are a variety of factors that can affect the efficiency of an air conditioner’s SEER. Keeping the air conditioning unit well-maintained is the best way to positively affect SEER. When installing the unit, the line-set from the outside condenser unit to the air handler inside the house must be the proper diameter to achieve the maximum SEER.
Duct work should also be inspected for leak/cracks and repaired if found. Faulty duct work can allow cool air to escape into an attic or crawl space instead of cooling a living area.
In Florida, the state minimum for air conditioner units is 13 SEER or higher, but this is expected to increase to 14 SEER in 2015.
