CHICAGO, August 6, 2019 On September 20th, the Association for Corporate Growth Chicago, the city's leading networking group for Middle Market M&A dealmakers and business leaders, will honor Diane Swonk with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The presentation of the award will take place during a lunch and networking reception at the Palmer House Hilton. Swonk, an expert on macroeconomic shifts, monetary policy, and the labor market, will be the 19th recipient of the award, which is presented annually to an individual who has made major contributions to corporate growth throughout her career.
According to ACG Chicago CEO Kim Hammond, Swonk was chosen because she is "someone who has inspired the M&A community and changed the world through her leadership and example."
Swonk began her career in 1985 as an associate economist at First Chicago Corporation and rose to become Director of Research and Chief Economist at First Chicago's successor firm, Bank One, reporting directly to the bank's CEO Jamie Dimon. She served as Chief Economist at Mesirow Financial for 11 years before starting her own consultancy and later joining Grant Thornton in her current position as Chief Economist and Managing Director. Swonk is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a Fellow of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), as well as a current advisor to the Federal Reserve and past advisor to the Congressional Budget Office, and the Council of Economic Advisers on a nonpartisan basis.
"Swonk is a prime example of what we value at ACG Chicago: someone who has shown not only business initiative, but who uses her authority to uplift and inspire others," said Hammond. Throughout her career, Swonk has been outspoken about her struggle with dyslexia and her experience learning to embrace it and find her strengths. She is involved in nonprofit organizations focused on expanding access to higher education and has testified before Congress regarding the causes and consequences of income inequalities as well as the need for high quality economic data.
