Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts Files Actos Lawsuit
Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 20, 2014 -- Flood Law Group announces it is now available to investigate potential Actos claims after a recent lawsuit announcement by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The lawsuit was filed June 11, 2014. According to documents in case No. 6:14-cv-01159, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts is seeking damages that were allegedly incurred after Actos makers supposedly failed to warn consumers about the risk of bladder cancer associated with long-term use of the diabetes medication. The insurance company claims that Takeda Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. and Eli Lily & Co. knew about the risk of bladder cancer, but failed to warn consumers. This lawsuit follows a 2011 FDA announcement regarding a possible increased bladder cancer risk related to Actos use.
According to an FDA Safety Announcement issued June 15, 2011, using Actos for more than one year may be associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer. This announcement was based on a ten-year ongoing epidemiological study. The study notes an increased risk of bladder cancer among patients with the longest exposure to pioglitazone (Actos) and in those exposed to the highest cumulative dose of pioglitazone. The Safety Announcement also cites an epidemiological study conducted in France which suggests an increased risk of bladder cancer with pioglitazone.
“The Actos lawsuit filed by Blue Cross is the latest development in Actos litigation,” said Christopher Brown, Director of Communications for Flood Law Group. “Our national drug lawyers are following this lawsuit closely as we continue to investigate potential lawsuits on behalf of clients who were diagnosed with bladder cancer after using Actos.”
