PASADENA, Calif., Oct. 29, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Acuity Eye Group, one of the largest integrated ophthalmology groups in the United States, is celebrating 14 years of serving patients in California this November.
Started in November 2005 as a single retina practice, the group has grown to include comprehensive services such as general ophthalmology, retina, optometry, dry eyes, glaucoma, cataracts, and more. In their efforts to prevent and treat eye disease across California and help as many patients as possible, the footprint for Acuity Eye Group now reaches far beyond that of Los Angeles and includes the Central Valley, Desert, Orange County, Inland Empire, Imperial Valley, and San Diego.
With over 60 providers on its team of doctors and spanning nearly 60 locations comprised of numerous ophthalmology and retina clinics, four surgery centers, four Acuity 360® locations, and three research centers, they've made a lasting impact on the communities they serve.
"Our mission at Acuity Eye Group is fairly straightforward - improve patients' quality of life through excellence in eye care and patient experience," said Dr. Michael Samuel, partner and co-CEO.
Dr. Tom S. Chang, founder and co-CEO was instrumental in the growth and accomplishments of Acuity Eye Group. After completing three fellowships in retinal diseases, Dr. Chang went on to become an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia for five years and then an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute for six years where he was Director of the Retina Fellowship. After leaving Doheny Eye Institute, Dr. Chang went on to open the first office for Acuity Eye Group.
"What I always envisioned was a medical group that had thoughtful doctors who enjoyed each other's company, respected patients as much as I do, and provided the absolute highest level of care," Dr. Chang said in a recent interview. "I felt this way when I was a solo practitioner and will expect to feel this way when we are a national organization."
Dr. Tom Chang is always looking for ways to improve the treatment of patients and give those with debilitating eye disease hope. Dr. Chang invests heavily in research and was part of the team that performed the world's first surgical implantation of stem cell treatment for dry macular degeneration, which was in collaboration with the Johnson & Johnson Stem Cell organization.
Patients interested in being seen at one of the many clinics in California can schedule appointments through the 24/7 Call Center at 800.898.2020. Those interested can also request appointments directly on the Acuity Eye Group website, where they will find additional information on Acuity Eye Group's doctors, locations, and the conditions they treat.
