West Brook Recovery Center Opens More Beds for Women
Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) January 06, 2015 -- West Brook Recovery Center has opened more beds in its facility to meet the needs of women in the community who struggle with drugs or alcohol. In the past, many women in need of substance abuse intervention sought out treatment at chemical dependency rehab centers, only to find that the lack of space barred them from receiving the help they needed. West Brook Recovery Center realized the seriousness of this problem and responded by stepping up efforts to make more beds available to women who are in need of treatment.
West Brook Recovery Center offers a unique residential program for drug- and alcohol-addicted women. Women residents live in a supervised community in which a small staff-to-client ratio allows each woman to receive individualized attention. Services provided include (but are not limited to) group and individual therapy, drug and alcohol education, and relapse prevention training. Please note that West Brook Recovery Center is not a hospital setting: patients live in a therapeutic community in off-campus apartments. During the day they attend treatment, including therapy and educational lectures, in a hospitable, coeducational facility.
Scott Swinburne, Program Director of West Brook Recovery Center, says, “It’s imperative for us to recognize and make the public aware of how many women deal with addictive disorders. There is a tendency to view women who struggle with drugs and alcohol as villains because women are expected to be ‘stable and nurturing.’ Because there is a shortage of beds at other facilities, we want to help the women of this community by creating a safe space for them.”
In this elegant, private treatment setting, women learn the skills to manage the stress of everyday problems they will face upon returning home. Each woman receives an individualized treatment plan tailored to meet the needs of her unique situation and is free to include family members in her treatment.
