New Found Life of Delray Beach Sheds Light on the Affordable Care Act and Misconceptions Related to Substance Abuse
Delray Beach, Florida (PRWEB) March 31, 2014 -- New Found Life of Delray Beach, a leading treatment and recovery center located in Florida, has issued an official statement regarding the recently enacted Affordable Care Act and its impact on insurance policies related to substance abuse.
According to Michael Watt, CEO of New Found Life of Delray Beach, many people in the substance abuse treatment industry have expressed concern related to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its policies regarding substance abuse treatment.
The ACA includes substance abuse disorders as one of the ten elements of essential health benefits, which in theory means that more individuals will have access to substance abuse treatment (1). But this might not be the case, according to Watt.
To clear up any confusion, New Found Life of Delray Beach and Watt have released the following statement:
“With the Affordable Care Act, insurers are now required to include mental health and substance abuse care in their policies; however, this care is arbitrary. Guidelines regarding payments for substance abuse treatment can be subjective. Insurance companies make arbitrary decisions on when they think an addict should no longer need treatment – in many cases, insurance companies are not respecting addiction as an illness that does need treatment,” stated Watt. “We want to make sure that anyone in the addiction and substance abuse treatment industry, or anyone who battles with an addiction, understands that although insurers are now required to have mental health and substance abuse care in their policies that does not mean that the policies will cover adequate treatment for all situations. Although this is a step in the right direction, there are still limits on the extent of substance abuse coverage in insurance plans.”
New Found Life of Delray Beach encourages anyone who is struggling with or knows someone who is struggling with substance abuse and addiction problems to learn more about which types of treatment are covered by their insurance policies.
