South Carolina is a freethinking state, so come on down, bring your imagination, and get ready to have some fun.

Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is now open in Aiken, S.C., at 151 Bee Ln. Nestled down an alley in the historic heart of Aiken, this Mellow serves up handcrafted, gourmet pizzas and craft beers in an old-fashioned brick building decked out with some funky art.

With this opening owners Shawn and Katy Ledford have opened three stores in ten years. Their roots started in downtown Augusta, but Aiken adds to their growing focus on and support of the Central Savannah Regional business district. Their original general manager Ryan Kight, who opened their Augusta store, will be joining them. The timing is poignant, opening six years to the day after the opening of their Evans, Ga., location. “South Carolina is a freethinking state, so come on down, bring your imagination, and get ready to have some fun,” says S. Ledford.

Mellow Mushroom’s menu showcases natural flavors and the freshest of ingredients in a creative menu, featuring an assortment of pizzas, hoagies, salads, calzones and appetizers, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. A gluten free crust and a kids menu are also available

Neon mushrooms that change colors slowly guide you past the chic and cool exterior to a welcoming atrium, where you can see selections from the Mellow Gear apparel line on display. From there, you can head to the left into the family-style main dining hall, with lively views into the kitchen, where all the magic happens, or to the right, where you can enjoy more sporty seating near the bar area. Past the bar area is the relaxing patio that seats over twenty folks.

With sixty seats under cover inside, there’s plenty of room. The walls throughout are bedecked with eye catching art pieces, sure to start some conversations. Next, there’s a giant faux-stained glass flower on the wall, lit from within. On the main dining wall, a vintage carousel unicorn was given wings to flourish as a bright and cheery Pegasus. Complementing its equine friend, a chameleon-like chandelier casts a myriad of colored nimbuses over the tables and plush booths below. Even more funky purple lights, decorated with silhouettes of peace symbol and some of Mellow’s lovable characters, dot the ceiling.

Mellow Mushroom's mission is to provide delicious food in a fun and creative environment. The layout of this store is ideal for entertainment. There is a warm, inviting bar inside with lots of TVs for local and national sports. The full service bar features a wide array of craft beers, an extensive wine list and fresh handcrafted cocktails.

The Mellow Mushroom will operate 7 days a week, Sunday-Wednesday, 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. For more information on Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, visit http://mellowmushroom.com/store/aiken or like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mellow-Mushroom-Aiken/1435437296736489.
