airberlin Increases Service from the U.S. by 50% for Summer 2017
(PRWEB) August 03, 2016 -- Up to 50 per cent more flights to Germany as of summer 2017
• New: Orlando – Dusseldorf five weekly flights
• New: San Francisco – Berlin-Tegel four weekly flights
• Los Angeles – Berlin-Tegel three weekly flights
• Berlin-Tegel – Miami now year round
• Frequency increases from Boston, San Francisco and NY (JFK)
airberlin is significantly strengthening its long-haul network to the United States as the airline expands its flight frequencies by up to 50 per cent from 55 weekly to 78 weekly nonstop flights from Berlin and Dusseldorf in summer 2017. The flights connect smoothly with many destinations within the airline’s global network.
This network improvement proves the increasing importance of the hubs in Berlin-Tegel and Dusseldorf and the long-haul network to North America.
Orlando will be launched as a new destination on May 6, 2017, departing five times per week to airberlin’s expanding Dusseldorf hub. Stefan Pichler, Chief Executive Officer airberlin, says: “Orlando is a valuable addition to our existing strong Florida-portfolio because the city is a major convention destination which bears a high potential in the business travel segment.
"airberlin has already seen a strong expansion of its US network this year as we added two new destinations Boston and San Francisco and several frequencies to our existing US network. The further expansion of our US operations as of summer 2017 shows that we are determined to continue on our path to position airberlin as a premium network carrier with a strong US footprint and an excellent proposition even for the most discerning business traveller."
The network expansion also includes the newly launched routes between Dusseldorf and Boston as well as San Francisco that will be increased from four weekly (Boston to Dusseldorf) and five weekly flights (San Francisco to Dusseldorf) to a daily service each. Together with the flights from Orlando, this is increasing the airline’s number of weekly flights from Dusseldorf to the US by 24 per cent in comparison to the previous year.
The Berlin hub will also see an increase as the number of weekly flights to the US will increase by 93 per cent in 2017. Both San Francisco and Los Angeles will be operated to and from the airline’s growing Berlin-Tegel hub from the beginning of May 2017 with four and three weekly flights respectively, adding up to a total of eleven weekly flights from San Francisco and a total of ten weekly flights from Los Angeles to Dusseldorf and Berlin combined.
Flights from Miami to Berlin will be a year-round nonstop service as of this winter – with four weekly flights in winter and three during summer in addition to the daily flights to Dusseldorf.
The very popular flights from New York (JFK) to Berlin will be increased by three additional frequencies to up to ten flights per week. Together with the existing double daily service to Dusseldorf, travelers can choose from 24 weekly connections with airberlin to Germany in summer 2017.
“At our hub in Berlin and Dusseldorf airberlin is the carrier with the highest number of flights to the US already this year. By further enhancing our long-haul network we continue to strengthen our leading market position and sharpen our profile as a network carrier with a highly attractive portfolio”, Stefan Pichler adds.
Germany's second-largest airline will receive three additional Airbus A330-200 to operate the extended flight program. All aircraft will be equipped with airberlin’s premium long-haul product: 19 seats in the exclusive FullFlat Business Class section and 271 Economy Class seats, including 46 XL Seats, which offer around 20 per cent more legroom.
In total, airberlin flies nonstop from eight US-destinations in summer 2017 to Dusseldorf and Berlin: New York (JFK), Boston, Chicago, Miami, Orlando (new), Fort Myers, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Additional flights from Berlin-Tegel to the US in winter 2016/17
The route expansion to the US already starts this winter: Flights between Berlin-Tegel and Miami will double to four times a week, compared to the winter of 2015/16. With the addition of a connection on Tuesdays, there will be daily flights from New York this coming winter. airberlin will also be adding a Thursday flight from Chicago in the winter to bring the weekly total to five. During the winter, airberlin flies 16 times a week to Berlin from three destinations in the USA: Chicago, New York and Miami.
Frequency increase from Dusseldorf to the US in winter 2016/17
airberlin will furthermore resume year-round flights between Dusseldorf and Los Angeles with five weekly flights. In total, airberlin will fly 24 times a week to Dusseldorf from four destinations in the US: Fort Myers, Miami, New York and Los Angeles.
The airberlin hubs in Berlin and Dusseldorf are conveniently connected with many airberlin destinations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as from the airline’s global network. In the US, partner airline American Airlines offers countless ongoing connections to destinations in the US and Canada.
