Alegria & Barovick Attorneys Enhance their Social Security Disability Acumen
White Plains, NY (PRWEB) June 15, 2017 -- Attorneys Anselmo Alegria and Andrew Barovick, founding partners of Alegria & Barovick LLP, recently attended the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) Spring Conference in Washington, DC. The NOSSCR conference is beneficial to attorneys for a number of reasons; for example, it provides an update on the laws in the Social Security disability area and a plethora of practical tips by experienced practitioners.
“It is also an opportunity to network with lawyers from all over the country who practice in this area of law,” said Barovick. “The conference gave us the opportunity to learn about technological advances in the applicable areas of legal tech, such as case management software, and to acquaint ourselves with advertising/promotional vendors for law firm marketing.”
NOSSCR workshops included Case and Client Preparation for a Successful Disability Hearing, Recent Regulatory Changes Addressing Medical Source Evidence, How to Prepare Disability Clients for Effective Hearing Testimony, Cross-Examining the Medical Advisor and more.
“The big takeaway for me was finding out about the wealth of materials that exist that can be used to cross-examine vocational experts, who typically get a free pass otherwise and usually testify in a way that hurts our clients, e.g. coming up with jobs that are allegedly available in abundance in the U.S. economy that the client is capable of performing, even in his or her physically or mentally limited state,” concluded Barovick. “Often, the jobs cited by the vocational expert either don’t really exist or exist in small numbers in far away parts of the country, or are unrealistic for other reasons.”
