Alert1 Medical Alert Systems has announced their new Kitchen 2.0 report.

The kitchen is one of the most dangerous places in the home. According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and injuries, and disproportionately impact our nation’s seniors. Alert1 Medical Alert Systems has recommended five new technologies to help modern seniors reduce the risk of burns and fires and greatly improve the overall kitchen experience.

“The aging-in-place market has seen an explosion of new technology. This new technology can help support caregivers,” stated Alert1 Director of Marketing Nicholas Pompa. “Alert1 helps the industry and our members and healthcare partners understand emerging technology. We hope to increase awareness of senior focused health technology to increase the adoption rate.”

Alert1’s analysis shows:

  •     Caregivers are struggling to keep up with the increase in the senior population. They need tools to reduce their burden and become more efficient to provide the highest level of care.
  •     The senior care market is flooded with potential products that could fill this gap. But technology adoption has lagged.
  •     Adoption rates of senior-friendly technologies are low. Higher usage is key to improved senior safety in the kitchen.
  •     Five kitchen technologies merit the closest look. These are smart refrigerators, stove-top monitors, induction stoves, monitored smoke detectors, and green dishwashers. Alert1 has rated each item by price, installation difficulty, and how important it is to have in the home.

“The senior care industry is slow to adapt new technology. We analyzed these products to determine the likelihood and timeline of adoption,” said Pompa. “The industry needs to move faster to support seniors and caregivers. Their safety and well-being depend on us to be proactive.”
