WASHINGTON, Sept. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities announced today that its 2018 National Conference will take place in Denver, Colorado from October 15-17, 2018.
The 2018 Alliance National Conference will showcase practice, policy, and research that advance knowledge and action to achieve the Alliance's core values of a thriving and vibrant nonprofit sector, health and well-being, educational success, economic opportunity, and safety and security -- all of which represent the building blocks of human potential and well-being.
The conference will capitalize on Colorado being a nationally recognized leader in social sector innovation, as well as offering several workshops and study tours that showcase the state's promising efforts in areas ranging from two-generation models for addressing poverty to public-private partnerships that create opportunities for families and communities.
Governor John Hickenlooper will deliver the opening address at the conference. Other notable speakers include:
- Elisabeth Babcock, president and CEO of Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath), an international charitable organization dedicated to creating new pathways to economic independence for low-income individuals and their families.
- Jane Bavineau, vice president of Sheltering Arms Senior Services Division, BakerRipley.
- Eric Schindler, president and CEO, Child and Family Resources.
- Angie Seckler Williams, regional director and senior trainer, The Open Table.
- Eunice Lin Nichols, vice president and Gen2Gen campaign director, Encore.org.
"We are honored to be joined by Governor Hickenlooper, a lifetime entrepreneur, business advocate, and author of the upcoming memoir, The Opposite of Woe: My Life in Beer and Politics," noted Alliance president and CEO Susan N. Dreyfus. "His passion and commitment to redefining the relationship between a state government and its business and civic communities can provide valuable lessons for the nonprofit sector as we seek to incorporate business practices that can help grow and sustain our sector financially."
Closing out the 2018 Alliance National Conference will be Choir! Choir! Choir! A collective led by creative directors Nobu Adilman and Daveed Goldman, Choir! Choir! Choir! was founded in 2011, when the group started by hosting twice-weekly drop-in singing events that take a nontraditional approach. There are no auditions, and the audience is the choir, learning and performing an original arrangement of a beloved song. The group has amassed a dedicated and passionate community of more than 12,000 nonprofessional singers, along with a thriving international fan base on YouTube and beyond. While continuing to host their Toronto choir events, the group now performs internationally.
