Allied Anesthesia physician and St. Joseph surgeon get kudos for quality patient experience
Orange, Calif (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- Allied Anesthesia physicians have worked closely with surgeons at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange for years developing a bond that benefits patients and results in positive patient outcomes as demonstrated by an email sent by a recent patient.
The female patient spent three days in St. Joseph’s orthopedic ward following surgery to repair a herniated disc. The surgeon, Dr. Jeffery Deckey, was assisted by Allied anesthesiologist Dr. Salomon Maya.
“You are truly blessed to have Dr. Jeffrey Deckey and Dr. Salomon Maya affiliated with your hospital, as I believe they are incredible doctors with excellent communication skills that make patients feel confident in them and their abilities,” the patient wrote.
She applauded Deckey for sticking with her through an apparent surgical complication.
“Besides, Dr. Deckey, Dr. Maya is my hero as well! Not only did he perform the surgical anesthesiology but when more tests were needed, Dr Maya followed me into MRI to ensure there would be no complications during the procedure,” she wrote.
Salomon said he just wanted to make sure he was with the patient during that difficult time and was happy that she did well. He said the unsolicited praise was totally unexpected.
“As anesthesiologists, we’re very rarely given credit for the good work that we do,” Salomon said. “We really appreciate that the patient was moved to share her positive experiences with us.”
The patient also commended the entire staff for being courteous, competent and caring throughout the ordeal beginning with the pre-op process, which was devised by Allied Anesthesia physicians to improve pre-op coordination, eliminate unnecessary tests, and reduce the number of surgical delays and cancellations. The Patient Ready Protocol, which was instituted last year, has resulted in significant improvements in the pre-op process for St. Joseph patients.
