Atlanta-based sales incentive, customer loyalty and employee recognition program provider Incentive Solutions is excited to announce a great achievement made recently by their Director of Operations, Amber Johnson. After attending the seven-week Dale Carnegie® Leadership Training for Managers program, Johnson’s fellow program participants recognized her with the Highest Achievement award, which members of Dale Carnegie® Training presented to her at Incentive Solutions headquarters.
Johnson attended the Leadership Training for Managers program as part of her professional development plan, which every employee at Incentive Solutions undergoes in order to cultivate the best, most cohesive team possible. She and 12-15 other executives met for four hours every week in a round-table atmosphere to discuss and develop leadership strategies. “There’s a misconception out there that managing is the same as leading,” Johnson said. “Some people who are managers are unable to lead and vice versa. Our objective was to discover how experiences and values shape leadership styles, and to respect the human capital aspect of leadership in order to build relationships of trust within the workplace.”
Among the leadership skills Johnson and her peers discussed were personal leadership, innovation, problem analysis, decision-making, implementation, delegation, communication and problem solving. The program’s attendees voted on the fellow participant who best demonstrated the leadership skill they focused on each week. At the close of the program, Amber and the other executives voted to select the recipient of the Highest Achievement award, to be given to the participant who displayed the best overall leadership ability.
“The best thing I got out of it was that there is a place for emotions within the workplace,” Johnson explained. “For as long as I’ve been in a corporate environment, there’s been a stigma around emotions in the workplace. For me, being an empathetic and passionate person, I’m emotionally aware of the environment and people around me. This particular course gave me the skills and tools to see how those qualities fit into the bigger picture and helped me harness them for the better of the organization.”
