American Pension Services, Inc.® Sponsors Local Team in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes
Riverton, UT (PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- American Pension Services (APS®), one of the nation’s premier self-directed IRA and 401(k) plan administrators, demonstrated their ongoing support for local JDRF team Stella’s Shining Stars Saturday at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s annual Tri-County Walk to Cure Diabetes. Headed by the recipient of both the Draper City Citizen of the Year Award and the Draper City Volunteer of the Year Award, American Pension Services’ Founder, President, and CEO, Curtis L. DeYoung’s personal commitment to community involvement extends to American Pension™ where resources are dedicated to seeking and engaging with worthy charitable organizations like the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, and the JDRF.
“I was introduced to the JDRF by APS’ graphic designer whose daughter Stella suffers from type 1 diabetes. I do not think many people know how devastating a type 1 diabetes diagnosis can be,” said DeYoung Saturday morning at the JDRF Walk to Find a Cure. “I encourage anyone in a position to give or to volunteer with JDRF to do so. I hope that APS’ involvement might encourage others to be charitably minded in their personal and business endeavors.”
Their third consecutive year sponsoring Stella’s Shining Stars, this year American Pension Services’ elected to match employee contributions to JDRF in addition to their usual Stella’s Shining Stars team sponsorship. APS executives note, “Matching employee contributions to the JDRF was our way of encouraging employees to give. When a $10 employee contribution actually represents a $20 total donation the impact of their generosity is multiplied.”
Unlike type 2 diabetes, there is currently no methodology to cure or prevent type 1 diabetes which means a life dependent on insulin. Wendy Hadden, Stella’s Shining Stars team leader, underscores the importance of the JDRF's efforts to find a cure, “The insulin that Stella takes will keep her balanced, but insulin is only a means of life support until a cure is found. This is why we are joining JDRF in raising money for research for a cure for diabetes. They are the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 research and the only major diabetes organization focused exclusively on research and finding a cure.” The Walk to Cure Diabetes is the JDRF’s largest fundraiser.
