Two Premium Temporary Structures Constructed by Condit on San Francisco Piers for the 34th America’s Cup & the 2013 Louis Vuitton Cup
San Francisco, California (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- After a highly competitive RFP process, the America’s Cup Event Authority (ACEA) selected Condit to create unique temporary structures for the most recognized sailing competition in the world, attracting top sailors, yacht designers, sponsors, and countless spectators. Construction began in mid-May and was completed per the project schedule to coincide with the beginning of the event on July 4th.
The construction process of the various America’s Cup temporary structures was documented by Condit from start to finish on the company’s website.
The history and prestige associated with the America’s Cup meant that Condit needed to design and build semi-permanent environments that didn’t feel temporary. With custom interiors, multiple balconies, and VIP lounge areas, the completed structures feel anything but temporary.
The primary pavilion, situated on pier 29, is an impressive 25m x 30m two-story charcoal grey structure with multiple viewing balconies. The pavilion houses the Club 72 lounge, the Louis Vuitton retail store (the first ever in a temporary environment), the Louis Vuitton lounge, the Team Artemis lounge, and a VIP guest lounge. Featuring four different ceiling finishes, hardwood floors, high end carpet and Bolon flooring, as well as custom restrooms, VIP shower, integrated HVAC, a combination of wired and temporary power to support custom lighting and AV displays throughout, an ADA compliant chair lift, and a plumbed catering kitchen, this structure is truly one of a kind.
The second building, the Oracle Team USA Innovation lounge, is also in charcoal grey which in itself is completely unique to the typical structure. With a 15m x 20m space and a 10m x 15m viewing balcony, this structure also includes hardwood floors, drop ceilings, hardwired electrical and HVAC. The lounge also has an additional 6m x 12m support structure used for Oracle staff operations.
The entire project boasts an impressive 4,000 square feet of VIP viewing decks, twelve 5m x 30m roof graphics on the main building for helicopter views, and a 10m x 15m roof graphic on the Oracle lounge. All decks and ramps are ADA compliant. In fact, Condit worked with the Port Authority, the City of San Francisco, and three separate engineers in the approval process.
Condit provided a turn-key solution that included design, logistical planning, engineering, the structures themselves and custom fabrication throughout. During the project process, Condit’s team worked closely with the San Francisco Port Authority, the City of San Francisco, the fire marshal, and multiple engineers on the approval process to ensure all applicable codes were met. Installing semi-permanent structures on the end of a pier while addressing weather concerns, high winds and category D exposure presented a serious set of challenges that had to be carefully planned for.
Working closely with the America’s Cup Event Authority, Louis Vuitton, Team Oracle and Team Artemis provided Condit the opportunity to showcase its unparalleled turn-key offerings at this incredible sporting event.
