America's Veterans Cafe That Employs Homeless Veterans in Danger of Closing; Urgently Seeks Angel Investor.
Charlotte, North Carolina (PRWEB) October 21, 2013 -- Victoria "Tori" Duncan, owner of America's Veterans Café, announced today that if the café is unable to secure investment capital by November 1, 2013, it will have to close.
Open just since September 21, 2013, America's Veterans Café employs five veterans of three United States military branches—two Navy, two Army, and one Marine. Three of them currently live in homeless shelters. The café has not only provided them with steady employment and income, but a means to help them transition back into civilian life and become self-sufficient again. If the café closes, the veterans will be left without that support system, and will have to start over.
Duncan, herself a Navy Desert Storm veteran, said, "Our goal has never been to make a lot of money, or become a huge company. We just want to help these veterans who made so many sacrifices for their country. We want to help them get back on their feet."
Duncan moved ahead with opening America's Veterans Café, investing more than $20,000 of her own money and depleting her savings, based on a promised infusion of capital from an investor. Once Duncan had completed the tasks necessary to receive that funding, the investor backed out, leaving Duncan with a café, no capital, and employees depending on those jobs.
America's Veterans Café, a part of America's Veterans Industries, is urgently seeking a new angel investor. Duncan plans to use investment capital not just to remain open, but to expand from a small café into a larger, family-friendly sports grill. Expansion would also mean more jobs for more veterans.
"The new location we're looking at is on the east side of Charlotte, five minutes from downtown, and just minutes away from the Bank of America Stadium where the Panthers play, and from Bojangles Coliseum, which hosts hockey and basketball games," Duncan said. "We would be in an ideal spot for sports fans, and anyone looking for good food. And they'll be supporting our country's veterans at the same time. Everyone wins."
If no investor comes forward in the next two weeks, Duncan will be forced to close America's Veterans Café, and will have to give up those dreams of expansion.
"I really don't want to have to do that," she said. "These guys deserve a chance at a good life, and I want to help them achieve that."
