LOS ANGELES, Dec. 2 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Super Lawyers distinction is granted to fewer than 5 percent of a state's top lawyers practicing in more than 70 areas of law. The annual list also appears in high-profile city and regional publications, as well as newspapers nationwide.
The Super Lawyers list creates a comprehensive and diversified resource of premier attorneys for consideration by those seeking legal counsel. Only those lawyers who are available for public hiring and retaining are eligible for Super Lawyer status.
Super Lawyers Selection Process
The patented, multiphase Super Lawyers selection process consists of four phases:
1. Lawyers are nominated by their peers or colleagues practicing in the same state. No one can nominate themselves or campaign for such a nomination. Those submitting nominations must have viewed the attorney in court firsthand. Nominees are then reviewed by an attorney-led research team delving into his or her credentials and professional competence, along with any certifications or honors earned.
2. Lawyers are then evaluated by the research department based on various factors. These include the number and amounts of settlements and verdicts, experience, representative clients, and awards and honors. The evaluation also appraises candidates based on their ranking within the law firm, educational background, bar experience, pro bono or community service work, scholarly articles and lectures, and their highest achievements.
3. The third phase consists of the blue ribbon review, in which nominees are evaluated by peers in their practice areas. This involves candidates with the largest number of points accumulated in their practice area at this stage of the ranking giving a rating on the scale of 1 to 5 to the other nominees in their practice area category.
4. In the last phase, those attorneys with the most points in their practice category are selected to be honored. Before official inclusion on the Super Lawyers list, candidates have their licensing standing checked, and an online search is conducted to ensure the attorney does not have any current issues outstanding, which could sully their reputation. Every attorney is sent the proposed content information for accuracy verification prior to publishing.
