Ankin Law Office LLC Stands Behind Marriage Equality--Team of Chicago Personal Injury Attorneys Participate In 44th Annual Chicago PRIDE Parade
Chicago, Ill. (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- Proving an undying passion for fighting for justice doesn’t end outside court room doors, personal injury lawyer Howard Ankin—owner and partner of Chicago-based personal injury law practice Ankin Law Office LLC—has shown passionate support for marriage equality and Chicago’s LGBT community by sponsoring a float in the 44th Annual Chicago Pride Parade June 30. The Ankin Law Office team supported Chicago PRIDE Week as part of a series of ongoing philanthropic events planned for summer 2013 that support various non-profits in Chicago.
Last month, the firm’s team of 20 personal injury lawyers and staff dedicated a Saturday to sponsoring and participating in a walk/run and “Peace and Health Rally” for Project HOOD. Ankin, inspired by Project HOOD founder Pastor Corey Brooks’s passionate work dedicated to combating the problems of urban America, stands behind Project HOOD’s initiative to offset street violence and make Chicago communities a safe place to raise a family.
During the 16 years since Howard Ankin and his father Paul Ankin first opened Ankin Law Office, the firm’s growing team of dedicated attorneys and staff has remained engaged in improving the lives of Chicagoans, both in and outside of the court room, by engaging in community outreach initiatives such as Chicago PRIDE Week and Project HOOD.
Continuing the firm’s commitment to the community, Ankin Law Office has launched a full-fledged schedule of philanthropic events planned for summer 2013, including an appearance in the 84th Annual Bud Billiken Parade Aug. 10.
Ankin Law Office also supports Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS)—an organization of attorneys who volunteer to donate free legal services to thousands of low-income Chicagoans annually—and Chicago Gateway Green, non-profit dedicated to greening and beautifying Chicago's expressways, gateways, and neighborhoods.
“We think of ourselves as an integral part of the Chicago community—not just as lawyers but also as community activists engaged in giving back to the city and its people every chance we get,” Howard Ankin said. “As we continue to fight an uphill battle for marriage equality in the U.S. Supreme Court, I was honored to have the opportunity to show my support of Chicago PRIDE in this year’s parade.”
Among the host of non-profit initiatives Ankin Law Office has supported over the years, Pastor Brooks’s charity Project HOOD also resonated deeply with Howard Ankin, who drew inspiration from the pastor’s extreme showing of passion for his cause to bring awareness to gun violence.
After spending 94 days living in a tent and fasting on the rooftop of an abandoned motel in a crime-infested area of the city during winter, Pastor Brooks raised the $450,000 needed to purchase the hotel and help build a $15 million community center in its place. Then last summer the pastor walked across the U.S.—from Times Square in New York City to the Staples Center in Los Angeles—to spread awareness about America’s gun violence epidemic and raise funding for the Project HOOD community center.
“When I heard about Pastor Brooks and the extreme lengths he had gone through to do good for his community, I became inspired by his passion,” Ankin said. “My own passion for the law seemed to create an immediate connection for me, both with LGBT causes and the Project HOOD initiative.”
He continued, “Similar to the undying passion driving the fight for marriage equality and the fight to end to street violence, I operate my law practice with intense ambition, which is the key to creating positive change—whether it’s in the court room fighting for a victim, in a rooftop tent taking a stand against violence, or on a float in the PRIDE parade proudly waving the colors of the rainbow.”
