Author Annelé Jeanette Shaw’s memoir, “The War YO-YO Kid: A Memoir” (published by Trafford Publishing), has been selected for inclusion in Trafford Publishing’s Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.

“The War YO-YO Kid” follows Shaw, a war-displaced child, as she is bounced from one country to another while trying to find her own way. As the three Russian-Finnish wars (1939-1945) raged in Finland, Shaw – an 18-month-old child at the time – was sent to Sweden and later Denmark to escape the horrors of war.

Shaw’s memoir details the struggles she faced as a child forced to embrace new cultures while being away from her family. Her message throughout the book, however, remains positive, and she encourages others to find goodness in difficult situations.

Praise for “The War YO-YO Kid”:

“Shaw's years as the ‘War Yo-Yo Kid’ make for a personal, compelling story. Her book is filled with cherished photographs and memories of foster families and her own birth family. … The narrative is still accessible enough for her story to be enjoyed by anyone interested in the history of the Russian-Finnish War, as well as issues of the effects of war on children.”
