Author Antoniette Leigh sheds light on the realities of growing up coping with her mother’s mental illness and how faith would carry her through difficult times in her inspiring new memoir, “The Rest for My Soul: An Inward Look into a Life Full of Trials and Tribulations” (published by WestBow Press).

“I have always felt compelled by the Lord to write my memories,” Leigh says, “in hopes that I may be able to help inspire people that there is hope even in the most difficult of times in one’s life.”

Leigh’s childhood was overshadowed with many hardships, and she lived in fear of her abusive mother, who suffered from schizophrenia. The instability of her home life often left Leigh unsure of what was going to happen next.

“Would it be worse than yesterday,” she wondered, “or could it be beyond my ability to comprehend?”

Candid and heartfelt, “The Rest for My Soul” tells Leigh’s story of how she faced these challenges and how she managed to conquer them with the help of the Lord. Her story sheds light on how a person’s mental illness can affect friends, family and other loved ones, and how faith in God carried her through these trials and tribulations.

“I want others to know that they are never alone,” Leigh says, “and that in the end, our earthly struggles, no matter how difficult or how unfair they seem, are only preparing us for our final resting place with God.”
