The life of a police officer is far from easy, it is regarded as one of America’s most dangerous jobs, not only due to the physical threats present in the line of duty, but also the mental and emotional rigors of the job, termed as police officer stress. The New York Police Department is regarded as one of the foremost law enforcement institutions in the nation, and author Arthur Cesare proudly served in it for no less than 21 years. In Iron Men in Blue he chronicles his experiences as one of New York’s finest, and the realities of protecting and serving the public.
Through the lens of Cesare’s memories, readers are able to understand what officers think and feel as they do their duties, his work explains why they act the way they do, revealing their volition, the grave responsibilities society has placed upon their shoulders, and the challenges they face in their daily lives. The author uses actual experiences that occurred to him in order to show what police work is all about, erasing the misconceptions fostered by fictitious works in the media and presenting the truth of law enforcement in New York and America.
“These are my memories of my time on the job. Some of the events were happy, some were sad, and all of them actually happened,” Cesare shares. Through his work, he hopes to educate the public, to cultivate a better understanding of the nature of law enforcement, and the realities faced by the men and women who stand at the front lines of the battle against crime in New York City every day.
Cesare’s memoir is a sincere and uncompromising portrayal of the lives of the Iron Men In Blue who serve as society’s only protection. Those with an interest in law enforcement will find Cesare’s work to be an insightful and compelling reading experience.
