The 12 Pillars of Project Excellence: A Lean Approach to Improving Project Results’ as a Leadership Body of Knowledge

The ultimate testimonial to the principles espoused in the 12 Pillars book, was that under Adil’s Chairmanship, the HD&L Division rose from being ranked at the bottom of the 22 divisions of ASQ to being #1 in customer satisfaction within 3 years.

The Human Development and Leadership Division of the American Society of Quality (ASQ) has announced that they are pleased to adopt author Adil Dalal’s book, ‘The 12 Pillars of Project Excellence: A Lean Approach to Improving Project Results’ as a Leadership Body of Knowledge. The book is the winner of the 2015 Crosby Award, the 2014 Shingo Research and Publication Award, and the 2013 Axiom Best Business book medal. In addition, the author, Adil Dalal, who served as the Chair of the Division from 2010-2013, received a ‘Global award for outstanding contribution to Leadership & Quality’. The Leadership Council of the division state that not only does the book meet all the criteria set out for the BoK, but that they have actually seen and experienced the practical leadership formula and principles mentioned in the book provide breakthrough results for the Division. They believe that the ultimate testimonial to the effectiveness of the formula for culture development espoused in the 12 Pillars book, was that under Adil’s Chairmanship (2010-13), the HD&L Division went from being ranked at the bottom of 22 divisions of ASQ in membership satisfaction, to flourishing and being ranked top-most in membership satisfaction within ASQ.

The special edition of the book will include a Foreword written by Dr. Brooks Carder, Chair of BoK Committee, written on behalf of the Leadership Council of the HD&L Division. He says, “As the Chair of the division, Adil focused on developing people as opposed to trying to find the right organizational structure, and he ran a democracy rather than autocracy. He managed from the top line not the bottom line. All of this is spelled out in his book. It is now clear that Adil was operating at a much higher level than that of a manager or even of a leader, but instead as a ‘leader of leaders’ or as described in the book, a ‘sensei leader™’”. The Foreword of this BoK is available at http://asqhdandl.org/forward.html.

The Human Development & Leadership Division of ASQ is dedicated to being the community of choice for everyone who seeks to make human development and effective leadership a priority for organizations and individuals on a global basis. HD&L is planning a series of free and paid webinars, workshops and other events based on the BoK.
