Prairie Winds of Urbana – a BMA affordable assisted living community – is hosting a Culinary World Tour to Central Asia from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 18.
The community, which is located at 1905 S. Prairie Winds Dr. in Urbana, Illinois, serves older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid, who need some help to maintain their independence.
“Bring your appetite, a curious palate and plenty of questions as we learn about China’s influence on cuisine in the central region of Asia,” said Tim Borbely, Director of Marketing at Prairie Winds of Urbana.
Devin Blobaum, the chef and dietary manager at the community, takes residents and guests on a monthly culinary tour that explores cuisine and culture from around the world.
The Central Asian food samples will include lamb, mutton, pickled vegetables, flat bread, olives and rice dishes.
There is no charge to attend the tour, which is free and open to the public.

Residents of Prairie Winds live in private apartments.
Each of the apartments features a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, and an emergency alert system.
Certified nursing assistants are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide residents with personal assistance and help with medications. Meals, housekeeping and laundry are among the included services.
In addition, residents benefit from plenty of opportunities to socialize with their neighbors and to participate in social activities and special events, says Borbely.
"Our focus is to provide residents with the love, compassion and dignity they deserve in addition to the care and assistance that they need," Borbely says. "Our emphasis is on helping Prairie Winds of Urbana residents achieve and maintain as much independence as possible for as long as possible."
