Kate’s vision of connecting kids who have been affected by such tragedy...was groundbreaking for metro Atlanta, and the need is stronger than ever.
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) May 11, 2015
Kate’s Club, an Atlanta-based non-profit organization offering support to kids grieving the death of a parent or sibling, will host its annual fundraiser, the “Spirit of Kate’s Club Gala,” on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Atlanta air conditioning company Assured Comfort Heating & Air Services is a proud sponsor of this worthy event.
“After the sudden death of my first wife, Sharon, in 2006, I found out about Kate's Club and thought it would be good support for my two kids, who were ages 6 and 9 at the time,” relates Jerry Hall, owner of Assured Comfort. “It made a world of difference to my kids, especially in knowing they weren’t ‘the only ones’ who had lost their mother. It made them feel like they belonged somewhere, and of course the grief support helped them through a very difficult time, and continues to help them.”
Founded in 2003, Kate’s Club provides support through recreational and therapeutic group programs, education and advocacy. Kate’s Club is open to children and teens, age 5 to 18, who live in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
The Gala is Kate’s Club’s signature fundraising event. This year, it will be held at the Loews Atlanta Hotel, and attended by more than 500 corporate, professional and community leaders. The evening will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, live entertainment, silent and live auction of donated items, and dancing. Chip Wade, Host of Elbow Room on HGTV, will be the emcee for the evening.
Rachel Ezzo, director of development and communications for Kate’s Club, says the goal for this year’s Gala is to raise $225,000. The proceeds will go towards the organization’s operating expenses, which includes running a summer camp and outreach programs at area schools. “We’re 100 percent philanthropically supported,” Ezzo says. “We do not charge our grieving families anything.”
Assured Comfort is “sponsoring a table” at the Gala, meaning they are paying for 10 tickets. In addition, they’ve also supported Kate’s Club throughout the year by making other donations, and their employees have volunteered their time. Ezzo says volunteers help out in many ways, from serving meals at various programs and activities, to greeting guests at events like the Gala, and assisting with community service projects. Hall’s 17-year-old daughter will be volunteering as a “Junior Buddy” camp counselor this summer.
Hall encourages others to support Kate’s Club in any way they can. That could be with financial support or volunteering. “Kate’s vision of connecting kids who have been affected by such tragedy, as far as I know, was groundbreaking for metro Atlanta, and the need is stronger than ever. Please do whatever it takes to help them continue to fulfill their promise of providing no-cost services to the kids going through a terrible time in their life,” urges Hall.
