Commercial HVAC installer in Atlanta, Bardi Mechanical, is finishing a year-long project installing a complete and intricate HVAC system for the new Georgia Poultry Laboratory located in the Gateway Industrial Centre off Highway 365.

The project began in the summer of 2013. Bardi was initially approached to perform a planned inspection and was then awarded the installation because of their qualifications. A team of more than 30 Bardi employees worked to install an intricate system with hundreds of air valves and extensive equipment, including a 300-ton chiller and three large air-handling units.

In addition, the facility is a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) type Bio Security Level 3 (BSL3) laboratory. This required special equipment to be installed in the HVAC system including six large Greenheck laboratory exhaust fans and two large HEPA filters.

This is one of the largest and most complicated projects Bardi Mechanical has completed to date. The company is now working on fine-tuning and making final adjustments to the system before the building is officially opened for use.

The laboratory will monitor diseases and provide testing and quality assurance for Georgia’s poultry industry. It is the largest poultry laboratory in the United States, and the third largest internationally.

“This project presented a challenge we were skilled and experienced enough to meet head-on and address the specific needs for the facility,” said Bill Byrd, senior project manager at Bardi. “We were commissioned to provide and install the equipment in a very unique and intricate system. We have worked alongside fantastic contractors and appreciate the opportunity to be part of this tremendous project that will benefit our state and the country.”
