Attorney Andrew Barovick Assists Law Students with Mock Trial and Moot Court
White Plains, NY (PRWEB) March 23, 2017 -- Attorney Andrew Barovick, a founding partner of Alegria & Barovick LLP, recently presided over a New York State Bar Association-sponsored New York State high school mock trial, organized by the Westchester Bar Association, and an American Bar Association Law Student Division moot court. “I like to encourage students to keep working towards their goals in pursuing a law career, since it is not commonly encouraged anymore,” said Barovick, a member of the Westchester and American Bar Associations.
Law schools from all over the country compete in the American Bar Association Law Student Division National Appellate Advocacy Competition. Moot court competitors participate in a hypothetical appeal to the United States Supreme Court. The competition involves writing a brief as either respondent or petitioner and then arguing the case in front of the moot court.
The New York State Bar Association mock trial was heard in front of a judge and jury and included direct and cross-examination of witnesses, as well as opening and closing statements. “The students had mastered a lot of material,” concluded Barovick, who in the past taught trial advocacy at Cardozo School of Law’s annual Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. “It was gratifying to share the benefit of my experience with the young participants who are just starting out.”
