SEATTLE, Jan. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Auction of Washington Wines (AWW) today announced a $15,000 grant to Walla Walla Community College's (WWCC) Institute for Enology and Viticulture. WWCC is focused on promoting the economic development of Washington state's wine industry by providing education and training. The grant will support WWCC's "Human Capital" fund, allowing students to earn an income while they gain real world experience that is credited toward obtaining their degrees.
"The camaraderie within the Washington wine industry is fantastic," said Timothy Donahue, Director of Winemaking for the Enology and Viticulture at WWCC. "The conviviality is on full display with this industry grant, as the Auction of Washington Wines actively invests in the next generation of vintners and viticulturists."
Now in its 32nd year, AWW launched the Industry Grant Program in 2017 as part of an effort to offer additional funding and support to organizations that provide services directly affecting Washington state wine grape growers and wine producers. Proposals were accepted in the following areas of need:
- Farm worker and family services that directly impact employees and/or families of employees of wine grape growers or wine producers
- Wine and wine grape education or research
- Other Washington wine industry needs, which support industry growth (for example: training, safety, business, support, etc.)
"The Auction of Washington Wines is proud to support the health and wellness of our industry through this grant program," said Shelley Tomberg, Executive Director of AWW. "We're thrilled to shine a light on the great work being done at WWCC and hope this year's grant will have a big impact for the future leaders of Washington wine."
Applications for the 2019 grant program will be accepted between May 1 and October 1, 2019. For more information, visit http://www.AuctionofWAWines.org.
