Autism Learning Partners Expands to Portland, Oregon – Creating Access to Autism Services and Developing Jobs for the Local Workforce
PORTLAND, Ore. (PRWEB) November 09, 2018 -- Autism Learning Partners (ALP), a national leader and full service provider that specializes in the treatment of autism and other developmental disabilities, is pleased to announce its expansion to Portland, Oregon. This expansion is part of a concerted effort to address the service gap and alarming rise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnoses while also creating jobs for the Oregon workforce. Operating since 1988 and serving 3,800 families in 14 states, ALP is a strong proponent of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Therapy, the only evidenced based ASD intervention recommended by the U.S. Surgeon General. ABA is the cornerstone of ALP’s practice, supported by speech, occupational, and physical therapists. Families in Portland and the surrounding areas will now have greater access to in-home ABA services, early intervention services, social skills classes, and parent training.
ALP’s President and CEO, Jeffrey P. Winter, who leads this expansion, has a passion for empowering families and providing access to quality clinical services for the treatment of autism and other developmental disabilities. “We’re committed to making progress possible for families in Portland and the surrounding areas by employing the best local clinical and operational leaders who strive to put families with ASD first,” said Mr. Winter. The Portland region will be led by Associate Clinical Director, James Hamman, Ph.D., BCBA, LBA, who is a doctoral-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over twenty years of experience supporting children, teens, and adults with autism and other developmental delays. “I am delighted to lead the Portland division. Portland is in need of skillful, culturally competent ABA service providers who are able to meet the needs of diverse populations. I look forward to undertaking this challenge and bringing critical resources to Oregon” shares James.
Autism Learning Partners will serve as a resource center for families in need of autism-related services and will invest in a complete clinical and operational infrastructure in Portland. Families can find assistance navigating the insurance system, locating a local ASD diagnostician, and obtaining access to all the resources necessary through their journey with ASD. ALP will also empower the local workforce as Mr. Winter indicated that a new ALP office, such as Portland, is expected to create over 100 clinical and operational jobs within its first two years.
ALP has also invested in a robust workforce development training program designed to train individuals interested in the special needs field. Under the supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Behavior Technicians work one-on-one with individuals with ASD and implement individualized treatment plans in the home, in schools, and in community settings.
ASD diagnoses in children continue to rise at rapid rates. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) indicates that about 1.7% or 1 in 59 children are identified with ASD (1). Advocates continue to push for quality early intervention services. As summarized by the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, research demonstrates that high-quality early intervention services can change a child's developmental path and improve outcomes for children, families, and communities (2). In Portland, autism services are funded by private insurance, making it easier for families to access services.
Autism Learning Partners has created a strong clinical and operational infrastructure to support the local community. ALP is interested in collaborating with families, local medical professionals, pediatricians, early interventions programs, and schools to improve the lives of families touched by ASD.
