137 of AWE’s Computer Workstations for Children Distributed by Governor’s Children’s Cabinet of Tennessee to Libraries and Family Childcare Programs
Chester, PA (PRWEB) August 28, 2013 -- AWE has provided 137 Early Literacy Stations to 59 public libraries and 61 family childcare programs across the state of Tennessee as part of an initiative of the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet of Tennessee. The initiative was funded by a federal grant.
The recipients were chosen through a competitive process run jointly by the Children’s Cabinet, the Tennessee State Library and Archives, and the state Department of Human Services. A commitment to promoting early literacy and engagement of families had to be demonstrated by recipients.
The Early Literacy Station™ is a complete computer system designed for children ages 2-8. It contains over 60 pre-loaded educational software programs that span all curriculum areas: reading, math, science, social studies, writing, art, and music. The Early Literacy Station offers children a safe, standalone computer that does not require an Internet connection to operate. It also features a host of administrative features including timed sessions and usage statistics tracking.
“Children who have not developed some basic literacy skills by the time they enter school are 3-4 times more likely to drop out in later years,” said First Lady Crissy Haslam. “We are excited to provide these valuable tools to boost early literacy in communities across Tennessee.”
AWE’s flagship product, the Early Literacy Station, is found in over 35% of the public library systems across the United States. The Early Literacy Station is available in English, Bilingual Spanish, and Bilingual French editions.
