The Royal Photographic Society Supports Britain's First Reality Show for Photography
London (PRWEB UK) 3 October 2013 -- The Royal Photographic Society today announced support for Britain's first reality show for photography and has become the headline supporter of the project.
Founded in 1853, The Royal Photographic Society is the world's longest established photography society. It was granted its Royal patronage by Queen Victoria in 1894, and a Royal Charter in 2004. It remains one of the most prestigious and well-respected societies to this day, counting members from over 80 countries in the world. The Society exists to support photography and to help individuals improve their own imaging skills.
The 9-episode series developed by Back to Front TV will take the form of a progressive elimination show that will celebrate the essential relationship between style and photography. To be produced in Spring 2014, the executive producer will make an official call for contestants in October 2013, inviting keen photographers across any level of skill to submit their best image and describe their motivation to participate in this exclusive first series. Each episode will be produced into an educational and thrilling challenge for contestant and audience alike.
The Society’s Director-General, Dr Michael Pritchard commented: “The Royal Photographic Society exists to help individuals develop their own skills and the use of a reality television series, led by a respected photographer, marks a new way of realising this long-established aim for The Society. The Society hopes that those photographers taking part will enjoy the experience of learning new skills and testing them against their peers. For viewers, the series should be both entertaining and an opportunity to learn new techniques to support their personal photography”.
The announcement of the show could not have come at a more auspicious time, as 2013 marks the centenary of the birth of Norman Parkinson, one of the all-time greats of British fashion photography with a career that spanned seven decades - in 1981, he was awarded the Royal Photographic Society's Progress Medal, which carries with it an Honorary Fellowship of The Society.
Commenting on the collaboration, Haider Mannan creator of the concept and principal of Back to Front TV, said: "This is a creative first for Britain and we are wholeheartedly committed to supporting The Society's endeavour of promoting photography. We hope this collaboration will deliver tremendous value for the creative arts in Britain through the contemporary medium of photography. We would like to inspire a new generation of photographers."
The show will be executive produced by Back to Front TV, a firm that develops content among other production related activities; and is advised by Mannan Capital Partners.
