American Dive Bars Goes to Kickstarter to Fund “Dive Bar Battles” Reality Show
Long Beach, California (PRWEB) February 02, 2014 -- Amercian Dive Bars, soon to be the largest portal website in the United States dedicated to dive bars, taverns and pubs has gone to Kickstarter to get their reality show “Dive Bar Battles” funded.
The Dive Bar Battles reality show combines the competition and dive bar history. The show will begin in Los Angeles with 20 contestants who are competing for the ultimate prize of a partnership in a Dive Bar. Contestants will be broken up in two teams where they will travel to 20 cities on a converted school bus. In each city, two dive bars will be chosen and the teams will promote an event for each bar. The bar that wins the competition will be chosen the Top Dive Bar in the city. The losing team will then have to vote one person from their team off the bus. This will continue until the culmination of the final episode in New York City where there last two contestants will battle it out for the ultimate prize.
“We made the rounds in Los Angeles and talked to a number of producers. You could see the wheels turning in their heads, but most of them either wanted too much control or they couldn’t grasp the concept because it did not fit the boiler plate formula that most reality shows follow,” said Mark Wright, a partner in the project. “We decided to go the route of the do it yourself movement and look to funding websites such as Kickstarter.”
Their video illustrates some of their encounters with a variety of Hollywood “big wigs” and the sacrifices that have to be made to make their dream a reality. Brian Smith and Tobi Schopf, the other two major partners in the project are the stars of the video as the two unwitting idealists who are willing to do anything to get their show produced.
The video was shot over the course of three days at Baur Films in Long Beach, California. Brian Smith and Tobi Schopf, the other major partners of American Dive Bars created the script and served as the main talent in the video. Most of the actors were unknowns with one exception, Mickey Jones. While you might not recognize the name, you will recognize the face as Mickey has been in movies such as “Tin Cup”, “National Lampoon’s Vacation” and “Sling Blade”. He is currently a recurring charcter on the FX show “Justified”. “Mickey is a friend and when we told him about the project, he was very excited to help out and was the consummate professional.
Post Production work was completed at PNW Productions in Ferndale, Washington, by John and Don Reynolds. John Reynolds is an executive producer of “Dog, Duck, Waterfowl” on the Sportsman Channel and brother Don has worked on more than 20 feature films and television programs.
“We are very excited going to Kickstarter to make this project a reality,” said Brian Smith. “We think people will really get a kick out of the video and we have a lot of really cool stuff to offer our backers. One universal thing that we’ve discovered is that everyone has at least one great story about an experience in a dive bar. It is something that everyone can relate to positively.”
