Pinehurst Fan Insider Mobile App Guides U.S. Open Championship Attendees
Fayetteville, NC (PRWEB) June 10, 2014 -- The U.S. Open Golf Association championship starts next week in Pinehurst, N.C., and the award-winning Fayetteville Observer has partnered with Bar-Z to develop the Pinehurst Fan Insider mobile app to feature coverage and guide visitors throughout the tournament. The app is available for iPhones and iPads on the Apple App Store and Android devices on the Google Play app store.
The app delivers everything to make the most of a trip to the Pinehurst Resort-hosted tournament, which runs from June 12-15 for the men’s championship and June 19-22 for the women’s championship. In one app, users will get all of the essential information to navigate the event and area.
• Headlines and news coverage before and during the championships
• Live reporting from the fairways and festivities
• An interactive look at Pinehurst's No. 2 course
• The latest parking and logistical information
• Lists of places to eat, drink, shop and socialize
• Extensive directory of nearby golf courses, driving ranges and other attractions
“This is a huge event for the region, with 350,000 people expected to visit during the championships,” said Matt Leclercq, managing editor of The Fayetteville Observer. “We’ll have full team coverage and wanted an app that makes it easy for readers to follow our reporting, get answers to questions and learn more about the golf capital of North Carolina.”
This year will mark the first time in history that both tournaments will be played on the same course in the same year. When the tournament is completed, the Pinehurst No. 2 course will become the only site to have hosted all five USGA championships.
The app was developed in partnership with Bar-Z, a mobile app and web development firm in Austin, TX.
“I am an avid golfer as well as the founder of Bar-Z. We are excited to partner with the Fayetteville Observer in the development of this app for golf fans coming to the area to see two world class tournaments,” said Wm. Lee Little, Founder and CEO, Bar-Z. “It’s not every day you get the chance to see the best men and women golfers in the world on the same course much less in the same town. This is an exciting time for the fans, for the city and the merchants listed on the app. We are proud to be part of this event.”
Once the competition ends this summer, the app will be will be repackaged as a general visitor guide to the southeastern North Carolina area, including Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Fort Bragg.
