Team Barbados Narrowly Beaten in Segway Polo World Cup Final

Barbados continues to dominate Segway Polo at the top level, placing second (2nd) at the recently held Segway Polo World Cup in Washington, DC as reported by team member and founder of Totally Barbados, Brett Callaghan. Having won the Woz Challenge Cup, as the World Cup of Segway Polo is known, in 2009 and 2010 and finishing second in 2011, Team Barbados once again reached the final of the Woz Cup 2013.

Team Barbados' trip to Washington DC was made possible with the support of the Segway Polo Club of Barbados, the Barbados Tourism Authority, Nissan Barbados (Courtesy Garage) and Totally Barbados.

Barbados continues to dominate Segway Polo at the top level, placing second (2nd) at the recently held Segway Polo World Cup in Washington, DC as reported by team member and founder of Totally Barbados, Brett Callaghan.

Having won the Woz Challenge Cup, as the World Cup of Segway Polo is known, in 2009 and 2010 and finishing second in 2011, Team Barbados once again reached the final of the Woz Cup 2013.

After placing third (3rd) among 9 teams in the round-robin stage (4 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses) the Barbados team went on to beat the Stockholm Vikings from Sweden 2:0 in the quarterfinals and the Blade Allstars from Germany 2:1 in the semifinals.

It wasn't until overtime in the final that the Stockholm Saints from Sweden scored the deciding goal 2:1 to take home the trophy.

Segway Polo Club of Barbados Members: David "The Great Wall of China" Eastmond, Nevin "Long Reach" Roach, Brett de Gale, James de Gale, Brett Callaghan and Ralf Luther.

The final was watched by the Barbados Ambassador to the United States, John Beale and embassy staff.

Also in attendance at the finals for the first time was the President of Segway, Inc. Rod C. Keller, Jr. who assured all teams that Segway, Inc. would step up their support for the Segway Polo sport.
