From author Barbara J. Burton comes “Love and Let Live,” an eye-opening autobiography that will appeal to people looking after the welfare of children, be they parents, teachers, counselors, and the like. Miss Burton unbolts the doors to her personal life to let others in on both the trials and the opportunities that presented themselves in the course of her life.

While the blind and visually impaired children are being integrated into public school systems, it is happening with mixed results in regard to successful acceptance and inclusion by other children and teachers. A visually impaired person herself, Miss Burton felt a need to write a book on the subject. Hence, the purpose behind the writing of this book is twofold: one, being autobiographical, it delivers her life story, along with the challenges and obstacles along the way; two, it aims to encourage those looking after children, particularly with some form of disability to focus on the positive aspects of what they can do for themselves rather than the disabilities and what they may be perceived as being unable to do.

An excerpt from the book:

“In keeping with the well-known adage “Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime,” I contend it is better to provide the means for individuals to do what they are able, to develop their abilities, rather than be dependent on others for their livelihood.”

This account reveals how one woman with a disability lived in a normal world and made great strides and, in the process, and proved herself no less capable and determined. Empowering and insightful, “Love and Let Live” is a book that raise awareness of the issues faced by people, especially children, with disabilities.
