BC Comfort Air Conditioning Limited Assists Richmond Centre Mall to Achieve 30% Energy Savings
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- BC Comfort Air Conditioning Limited, a Vancouver-based contractor specializing in design build as well as commercial and industrial HVAC, has completed improvements at the Richmond Centre Mall, resulting in a 30% energy savings for the facility.
BC Comfort was selected to address the inefficient energy loads present in this commercial facility. Partnering with BC Hydro and Cadillac Fairview, BC Comfort retrofitted twenty-two rooftop package units using the state-of-the-art CATALYST, a complete energy efficiency upgrade system for rooftop units that has been proven to reduce unit energy consumption.
The CATALYST, created by Transformative Wave, reduces unit energy consumption using various sensors and hardware with an optimization program that includes fault detection and detailed analytics. The Richmond Centre Mall project is the first application of the CATALYST technology in Canada.
“Catalyst gives our customers an inexpensive option to save significant energy costs and comply with new regulatory measures like ASHREA 90.1,” says Rod Giltaca, Energy Services Advisor at BC Comfort.
While Richmond Centre Mall’s existing system was already controlled by DDC, the results of this retrofit project have achieved an average 29% reduction in electrical energy use alone. In 2013, the HVAC system improvements produced a savings of $17,000.00. Natural gas savings were not a focus of this project, though similar savings are anticipated as a result of the facility improvements made by BC Comfort Air Conditioning Limited.
