BC Greenhouses Offers Tips on How to Maintain Heat in Your Greenhouse This Winter
Surrey, B.C. (PRWEB) December 03, 2014 -- BC Greenhouse Builders, the leading custom greenhouse manufacturer of Cross Country greenhouses, offers tips on how to maximize heat in your greenhouse this winter.
"Typically in cold winter climates a heater is needed to over-winter your plants," says Angela Drake Marketing Director for BC Greenhouses. "But many people are looking for ways to maximize the heat and not face a large hydro bill at the end of the month."
The first step is to choose a heater with a thermostat in order to keep your greenhouse at the desired temperature rather than having to babysit the greenhouse and force a heater all night long. The second step is to Insulate your greenhouse with plastic which creates an airspace and reduces winter heating costs.
"Many of our customers will use bubble wrap on the inside panels of the greenhouse. Depending on sun direction, you may want to insulate just the north side of the greenhouse while still allowing heat to penetrate the greenhouse during the day," says Drake.
Some other tips to maintain heat are to place portable heaters near the floor closer to the entry of your greenhouse so that they will replace lost heat quickly, consider using an energy curtain to heat only a portion of the greenhouse, manually closing all vents to capture heat, and incorporate a black rain barrel to act as a heat sync that will release warmth into the greenhouse at night.
"Our greenhouse experts have tons of knowledge to pass along and also can offer a heating formula to get the best performance out of your greenhouse," says Drake.
