Six Orange County High Schoolers Receive College Scholarships Totaling $72,000
IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 26, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation announced today the selection of its 2022 class of Orange County Beckman Legacy Awardees. Six high school students were awarded for their excellent lab work after building a spectrophotometer and conducting an independent research project under the mentorship of their science teachers. This annual Orange County high school program supported by the Foundation honors Dr. Arnold O. Beckman's legacy and his many inventions, including the spectrophotometer, while exemplifying the Foundation's mission to support young scientists.
High schools from six school districts in Orange County, CA were invited to participate in the third year of the program. The awarded students were selected after a competitive application process, which included a two-part, double-blind review by a panel of high school science teachers, college professors, and industry experts.
This year's award is comprised of $72,000 in scholarships to support the following students:
First Place, $16,000 scholarship each:
Lara Karas, Woodbridge High School
Shaurya Raswan, Northwood High School
Second Place, $12,000 scholarship each:
Charlene Hui, Woodbridge High School
Gabriel Samcam-Vargas, Tustin High School
Third Place, $8,000 scholarship each:
Ethan Lai, University High School
Pranav Mehta, Northwood High School
"It is exciting to see the creativity, innovation, and enthusiasm demonstrated by these young scientists while completing the instrumentation build and their research projects during the hybrid online and in-person program year. High schools from the Anaheim Union, Capistrano, Fullerton Joint Union, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach Union, Irvine, Saddleback Valley, Santa Ana, and Tustin Unified School Districts have been invited by the Foundation to participate in the program's fourth year.
