The New Sports Economy Institute Says Mark Cuban May Soon "Feel the Bern" in Texas as the Attorney General Disallows Daily Fantasy Gambling
Hollywood, California (PRWEB) January 26, 2016 -- The New Sports Economy Institute reports that the Texas Attorney General declared daily fantasy sports as illegal gambling, joining his counterparts in New York, Illinois and a few other states and while enforcement action may be unlikely, daily fantasy players may be at risk.
Ironically, the opinion came out during the 2016 Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) Winter Conference in Dallas, Texas. DraftKings, FanDuel as well as the FSTA published statements criticizing the opinion. In addition, Mark Cuban, owner of Dallas Mavericks, e-sports and fantasy sports investor, and a big proponent of both daily fantasy sports and sports betting took shots at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the stock market during his keynote speech, dubbing it gambling 101.
“I can’t believe what I’m hearing” says ex NHL Star Bernie Nicholls. Nicholls continues “I can’t believe Mr. Cuban is supporting daily fantasy sports when its clearly gambling and is clearly something that can have a negative long term effect on fans as the fans are not encouraged to cheer for a team in the actual NBA or any league; they are cheering for their fantasy team, which changes daily. At least in the season long fantasy you had your favorite players and usually players from your favorite team for the year and sometimes for their entire careers.”
