Latest Best Drug Rehabilitation Blog Post Asks: Should a Rehab Facility Be Certified
(PRWEB) August 20, 2014 -- In its latest blog post, Best Drug Rehabilitation, which offers treatment programs and believes that having family close by during a stay in rehab can make a big difference in whether or not the process is successful, is asking an essential question that those suffering from addiction, along with the family and other loved ones, must ask: should a rehab facility be certified?
“Some people assume that a rehab facility only needs to be certified at the State level,” commented Best Drug Rehabilitation’s CEO Per Wickstrom. “However, there are additional levels of accreditation that raise the bar and make for a better facility.”
With respect to State regulations, the Best Drug Rehabilitation blog post highlights that rehab facilities in Michigan must:
• Clearly define the following: intake procedures, admission criteria, reasons and methods of discharge or termination, after-care procedures, and patient rights.
• Comply with local, State and Federal statutes and regulations for providing services to handicapped individuals.
• Have defined program evaluation methods, along with objective and measurable progress indicators.
• Provide clients with a medical exam by a licensed physician within 14 days of admission (applies to residential rehab programs, and only with the patient has not had a medical exam within six months of admission).
• Create a treatment plan that includes an assessment of each clients’ social and psychological needs (applies to residential rehab programs).
• Offer defined therapeutic treatments and services that follow a progressive sequence (applies to residential rehab programs).
With respect to additional accreditation, some rehab facilities – including Best Drug Rehabilitation – have opted to have their program evaluated and official recognized by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), which is an independent non-profit accreditation body for health and human services. Rehab facilities that achieve CARF accreditation are those that:
• Have treatment programs that follow rehabilitation stages, which last an appropriate length of time to meet the needs of individual clients.
• Are willing to let CARF conduct unannounced monitoring visits.
• Maintain up-to-date professional licenses and certificates for personnel.
• Ensure all equipment used by clients can utilized safely and effectively.
• Tailor its training, instructional manuals, and approaches to clients’ needs, abilities, learning preferences, and language.
• Provide follow-up services for clients that are consistent with the type of service received.
• Provide recommendations from team members as well as physician.
• Provide detoxification services to help clients reduce or eliminate their use of illicit drugs, while improving their quality of life and functioning.
• Deliver all residential treatment services in an organized manner so that clients with behavioral health disorders or related problems can reside and receive services from personnel who are specialty trained in service delivery.
• Submit annual “Conformance to Quality” reports.
Added Per Wickstrom: “As is clear, a rehab facility that has attained certification and accreditation – instead of just certification – has been verified as meeting a higher standard of care. Plus, accreditation is not permanent. Accredited rehab facilities must commit to being held accountable to a third party source on a clearly defined and consistent basis.”
