Best Drug Rehabilitation Announce Volunteer Efforts Through Help at Local Animal Shelter
Manistee, Michigan (PRWEB) March 10, 2015 -- The staff and patients at Best Drug Rehabilitation in Manistee, MI, find great benefit in giving back to the community. One of the many ways that this takes form is in weekly visits to the Homeward Bound Animal Shelter. Recently the staff and clients at the facility have announced efforts to help the shelter through volunteer work.
On these excursions, the Best Drug Rehabilitation staff takes 5-10 patients to offer a healing hand to the shelter staff. They assist in bathing the animals, cleaning their living areas, feeding them and, perhaps most importantly, spending some quality time with them. These forgotten pets and strays are visibly excited when the group shows up, and it is heartwarming for patients and staff alike.
Helping Animals, Giving Back
While Best Drug Rehabilitation patients and staff participate in many community service events, this is one that really seems to pull at the heartstrings. Several of the patients have even made plans to adopt one of the animals after they complete their treatment program at the recovery center.
These weekly visits are not only good for the animals. It has been clinically proven that there is tremendous therapeutic value in interaction with our four-legged furry friends. This is especially true for our patients. “One of the biggest parts of our recovery program,” comments Best Drug Rehabilitation’s Per Wickstrom, “is learning how to give up the old selfish ways and to give back to others and to the community.”
And, to do so without expecting anything in return, with the knowledge that the act of giving is a reward in itself. When our patients return from giving these helpless animals what assistance they can, they begin to understand the power of caring and compassion.” Commented one patient who makes a point to attend this outing regularly, “Being able to spend a small part of my day making their lives better makes mine better.”
