City of Schertz to Host Sixth Annual Wilenchik’s Walk for Life
Schertz, TX (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- The City of Schertz is proud to announce that the sixth annual Wilenchik’s Walk for Life will take place March 1. This walk is held in memory of Councilmember Tony Wilenchik and is a 5K non-competitive walk/fun run along Schertz Parkway. Participants will help raise awareness and funds for cancer research. The event is sponsored by HEB, and all proceeds will benefit UT Medicine’s Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) San Antonio. The walk will start promptly at 8 a.m. at the rear parking lot of the Samuel Clemens High School, located at 1001 Elbel Road, Schertz, TX 78154. Check-in will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the walk. Online registration is encouraged and is available here. Online registration will close Friday, Feb. 28.
Participants can also print and fill out the paper registration form, available at http://visitschertz.com/walkforlife and turn it in by mail or in person. Registration forms and fees can be dropped off in a sealed envelope at Administration Building 2 or Civic Center Building 5, located at 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, TX 78154. The 5K walk costs $20 per person ages 18 and up, $10 per person ages 13-17, and free for children ages 12 and under. Teams of five or more cost $15. The 5K Fun Run costs $25 for all ages and $10 for canine participants. The final deadline for all fees and contributions is 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.
Participants can also purchase a “Sign of Love” for $15. These signs are personalized on both sides, and have the option of saying either “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of.” The signs will be decorated by area elementary school children and will be placed along the event route. Forms are available at http://visitschertz.com/walkforlife and can be filled out and either mailed or returned in person. The Wilenchik Walk for Life will take place in either rain or shine and is sure to be a fun and successful event. The City of Schertz is looking forward to participating in the walk and encourages Schertz citizens, citizens of the surrounding areas and other visitors to join them.
