Best Drug Rehabilitation CEO Per Wickstrom Speaks to Cory Schlesinger at Detroit’s Hometown Heroes Event
(PRWEB) July 17, 2013 -- Per Wickstrom, the CEO of holistic treatment facilities including Best Drug Rehabilitation, recently sat down with former Detroit Lions fullback and current high school teacher Cory Schlesinger at the Detroit’s Hometown Heroes Event to discuss how things have changed for kids today compared to those of a generation ago.
Mr. Schlesinger, who was named to the All-Madden team in 1999, Sports Illustrated’s All-Pro Team in 2001, and was an NFL Pro Bowl alternate in 2002, 2003 and 2004, believes that the biggest difference is a matter of family structure.
“As a teacher, it’s clear to me that today’s kids have many more responsibilities than we did when we were their age,” commented Mr. Schlesinger. “Unfortunately, the lack of family structure is making it all that much harder for today’s kids to deal with those added pressures and cope in a healthy, productive way. As a society, we’re not paying attention to what’s on TV and on the Internet, and in essence we’re causing kids to want to numb themselves. I think the way to solve this is for parents to stop trying to be their kids’ best friends. They don’t have to buy them things to compensate for a lack of family structure. Instead, they can spend quality time with them, and show them that they care and love them.”
Mr. Schlesinger’s views on how some parents are buying their kids’ affection is one that Per Wickstrom knows all too well, as it’s an issue that often arises with individuals and families in his holistic treatment facilities.
“Cory is absolutely correct in his observation that we can’t buy our way into our kids’ hearts and minds,” commented Per Wickstrom, who believes that the best rehab centers are those that empower clients to experience complete health that embraces body, mind and spirit. “Every time parents give their kids the latest computer or smartphone, despite their destructive behavior, they’re saying that it’s okay. This kind of reinforcement is extremely negative. We need to reward kids for excelling and for making the right choices.”
