Betty Cares has also provided iPad and charging stations for the floors throughout Miami Children’s Hospital, waiting rooms and outpatient centers. Additionally, Betty Cares has donated several laptops for use in rooms by patients and their families, several toys for children during the holiday season, and is helping to fund the new pediatric surgical waiting room. Betty Cares co-founders Jason Turchin and Kira Turchin also founded Layaway Day, where donations are accepted and used to anonymously pay off holiday layaways.

Betty Cares can now receive monetary donations, bequests, devises in wills or trusts, property and asset transfers, and gifts. Under the Internal Revenue Code, Betty Cares is considered a tax exempt organization.

"We are thrilled to bring Betty Cares to other hospitals and medical facilities," said Betty Cares President Kira Turchin. "Betty Cares was created with the desire to help others and give back to the community. This designation as a public charity allows us to help even more families in different areas."

Betty Cares was founded by Kira and Jason Turchin in memory of Kira's mother Betty, whose selfless acts of supporting a loved one who had cancer led to her early death by neglecting signs of her own advanced illness. Kira is a biomedical engineer with undergraduate and master's degrees from University of Miami. She is also a PhD candidate in engineering and communication. She was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami prior to her mother's illness and death. Jason is a Victim's Rights Attorney who dedicates his career to helping those injured, killed or victimized by other's carelessness.
