“Here I Am: the Abraham Legacy” focuses on the residents of Saverne, Texas, a fictional small town near the Mexican border, whose townspeople were called upon to surrender members of their community to Operation Desert Storm.

New author Betty Pack evaluates the sacrifices of Operation Desert Storm soldiers, comparing their hardship to Abraham’s biblical test of will in her debut novel “Here I Am: the Abraham Legacy” (published by AuthorHouse).

Drawing upon the Old Testament story in which Abraham was asked by God to sacrifice his young son, Isaac, Pack reveals this widely known legend as a harsh reality for families of those previously engaged in Desert Storm combat.

“Here I Am” is equal parts gangland mystery, historical fiction, and comedic drama. Pack describes the book as “a novel about letting go,” as the story evolves from the start of the Gulf War – when the U.S. sent thousands of military units to duty in the Arabian desert – until the bloody, conflict-laden Operation Desert Shield, later to be renamed Operation Desert Storm.

In particular, the novel follows the fictional residents of Saverne, Texas – a small town near the border of Mexico – whose townspeople were called upon to surrender members of their community to Operation Desert Storm.

The Saverne residents’ individual and combined stories allude to biblical Abraham’s analogous suffering, helping readers cope with the effects of war, and other traumatizing events.

Pack will present “Here I Am: the Abraham Legacy” at the 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair, October 8-12, 2014 . The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world’s largest trade fair of books. More than 7,000 exhibitors from more than 100 countries and more than 200,000 visitors are expected to attend.
