Article on New Breast Implant Highlights the Differences Between Saline and Silicone Implants, Notes Beverly Hills Physicians
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 25, 2015 -- According to an article published September 9th by Allure, a new type of saline breast implant, known as the Ideal Implant, claims to offer prospective patients a natural look and feel, something that critics have long said many saline implants lacked. According to Beverly Hills plastic surgery group Beverly Hills Physicians (BHP), the debate over saline vs. silicone began decades ago when earlier models of silicone implants were deemed unsafe by the FDA due to concerns about rupturing. Now, BHP explains, these implants are known to be safe and are accordingly back on the market. In fact, the article notes that the newest silicone gel implants only have a rupture rate of around one percent. Coupled with the fact that nearly every expert and surgeon considers silicone implants to have a more natural look and feel, they have been the preferred choice over the past decade for the majority of women seeking implants.
While the Ideal implant is still undergoing a ten year trial that is set to conclude in 2019, BHP notes that initial positive results in terms of the implant’s naturalness could lead to a peak in saline implant interest. For now, they note, there are still several other positives associated with saline implants.
• Cost – One of the biggest reasons why women today opt for saline implants is their reduced expense, explains BHP. Because the cost varies from patient to patient depending on their needs and the exact model of implant they select, it can be difficult to estimate exactly how much a patient will save by going the saline route. Yet, BHP can attest from their own patients’ experience that the difference can be enough to bring to procedure from a point that may be just out of reach financially towards something more affordable for those on a tight budget.
• Age Restrictions – While silicone implants are only FDA approved for patients aged 22 and older, saline implants are approved for use in women as young as 18. This means that saline implants are often sought after by younger women who want the benefits of implants while they are still young. BHP notes that, while many of these women are extremely happy with their saline implants and keep them for many years, others know that they have the option of swapping them out for silicone implants when they turn 22.
While there is simply not enough data about the Ideal Implants to determine whether or not they truly are ideal for breast implant patients, Beverly Hills Physicians notes that the early information is certainly enough to stir conversation.
