The 5th of May is synonymous with Cinco de Mayo, a big celebration of Mexican culture and history. For Seniors First, the 5th of May is synonymous with giving. Seniors First is a nonprofit charitable organization providing long-term support and services to help older adults maintain their independence and thrive and board member, Attorney Justin Gilbert, is helping to raise awareness for Seniors First and the “BIG Day of Giving.”
This celebration of giving includes more than 100 communities across the country coming together with the goal of reaching millions of donors to raise over $100 million nationwide for nonprofits. “Seniors First is proud to again be a part of the BIG Day of Giving,” said Gilbert. “Representatives of Seniors First, alongside many other outstanding organizations, will be rallying support for the crucial work of local nonprofits.”
From midnight to midnight on May 5, donors can visit http://www.bigdayofgiving.org and give to nonprofits that lift up lives. Additionally, Seniors First representatives will be at the mall to offer information and assistance and give out prizes every hour. “In 2014, the Sacramento region made history during the first BIG Day of Giving by raising more than $3 million for 394 nonprofits from more than 12,000 donors,” said Gilbert. “For 2015, we aim to help raise even more money and further strengthen our nonprofit sector, such as Seniors First.”
Seniors First has been serving Placer County, CA, since 1971. It does not charge seniors or their families for many of the services provided, but rather chooses to seek funding through donations, grants and fundraisers. It also relies on community support and utilizes volunteer efforts to provide transportation to daily errands or medical appointments, information and assistance, home modifications, safety repairs, friendly visitors and housing-placement assistance.
