Times Square Takeover™ Event for Microsoft Wins at EVENTtech
New York City, NY and Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) November 15, 2013 -- On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, the Times Square Domination™ team attended the Event Technology Awards luncheon at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, as part of the third annual EVENTtech conference. The Times Square Domination™ team supported collaborative agency partner, R/GA, in their receiving the Gold award in the category for Best Touch-based Experience/Interactive for the Times Square Takeover™ campaign that launched Microsoft Windows 8. Times Square Domination™ congratulates R/GA and celebrates the award as the agency that produced the “powered by WIND™” platform that was used to create the backbone of the successful campaign.
Times Square Domination™ installed a new, revolutionary technology platform called WIND™ into 19 digital billboards in Times Square. This technological infrastructure allowed the digital screens to run off a single broadcast network and synced the screens in real time. The event was the first time ever that the digital screens in Times Square were run off a single, central location and operating system.
WIND™ is a proprietary network technology that seamlessly connects and controls multiple digital screens, signs and displays regardless of their physical locations, aspect ratios, resolutions or manufacturers. The WIND™ technology allowed partner agency R/GA to create fully synced animations across all billboards, and required the creation of only one animation file that was uploaded to the WIND™ system and automatically formatted correctly for each billboard.
The Times Square Takeover™ campaign was executed for Microsoft’s reveal of its latest operating system, Windows 8, on October 26, 2012. The event allowed Microsoft to create the world’s largest public, open showroom in the middle of Times Square. Microsoft was joined by its major partners including Dell, Asus, HP, Toshiba, Samsung and Sony.
WIND™ allowed Microsoft to switch each digital screen from advertisements to its own Windows 8 start screen as the clock struck midnight to celebrate the operating system becoming available for purchase to the public. In addition, Microsoft had tablets and PCs available for passersby to touch and test. “The R/GA touch-based experience was enhanced and powered with WIND™ technology, which synced the street-based tablets and PCs directly up to the 19 digital screens, allowing the images that visitors created on the street, in the Broadway Pedestrian Plazas of Times Square, to be instantly pushed from ‘Street-to-Screen™’ with the flick of just a single finger,” explained Tom Hennigan, partner and co-owner of Digital Domination™.
“The WOW Factor congratulates R/GA on their award,” said Don Blanton, CEO of The WOW Factor, creator of WIND™. “We want to thank R/GA for running their program on WIND™. Tom and I, and our respective creative teams, were all proud to be a part of the successful execution of this award-winning event.”
