New York, New York (PRWEB) January 18, 2014 -- Biomet hip lawsuits (http://www.consumerinjurylawyers.com/biomet-magnum-hip-replacement) alleging injury from the M2a Magnum Hip Replacement System continue to mount in the federal multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to an updated case list issued by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML), the number of claims filed in the proceeding now stands at 953. The JPML had previously reported in December that 893 lawsuits had been filed in the federal Biomet hip replacement litigation. “Our Firm is representing a number of clients in Biomet hip lawsuits that have been filed in this proceeding, and we continue to hear from individuals who have allegedly suffered serious complications due to these implants. It is not surprising that the number of claims is growing so quickly,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices, including clients who have filed Biomet hip lawsuits. The Firm continues to offer free and confidential legal consultations to individuals who may have been injured by the Biomet M2a Magnum Hip Replacement System.
Biomet Hip Lawsuits
According to court documents, the federal Biomet hip replacement litigation was established in the Northern District of Indiana by the JPML in October 2012. All of the lawsuits pending in the proceeding allege that the metal-on-metal design of the M2a Magnum hip can result in an unsafe accumulation of metal ions in patients’ tissue and blood stream. Plaintiffs further allege that this can cause a number of serious and debilitating complications, including metallosis, chronic pain, and loss of mobility and premature failure of the hip.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that metal-on-metal hips are more likely to fail prematurely than other artificial hip designs. In a January 2013 alert, the agency advised recipients of these hip implants to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms that could indicate a problem with the device. At the same time, the FDA said it was proposing new regulations that would subject metal-on-metal hips to greater regulatory scrutiny.
Biomet hip replacement recipients who suffered complications allegedly associated with the all-metal design of the M2a Magnum hip system may be entitled to compensation for their injury-related damages.
