Birmingham Personal Injury Lawyers of Belt Law Firm, P.C., Discuss New Studies on Link between Strokes, TBI
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) September 26, 2013 -- Birmingham head and brain injury lawyer Keith T. “Kit” Belt Jr. called attention today to a new article on his Alabama personal injury law firm’s website discussing studies that indicate a higher risk of stroke among traumatic brain injury victims.
In addition to representing accident victims suffering from TBI, Belt serves as President of the Board of Directors of the non-profit Alabama Head Injury Foundation.
“As the blog article explains, this new finding by separate research teams has important implications for thousands of Alabama residents who suffer a brain injury each year as well as millions of people around the world who are living with TBI,” said Belt, founder of the Belt Law Firm, P.C.
The September 11 blog article, “Traumatic Brain Injury Increases Risk Of Strokes,” discusses one study published in July in the journal, Neurology, which found that the risk of ischemic stroke increased modestly but significantly following traumatic brain injury in 40,000 cases studied.
According to the blog article, a Taiwanese study previously showed a higher stroke risk associated with TBI compared with a non-trauma control group.
“In addition to the need to more closely monitor TBI victims for signs of stroke, these studies imply a dramatic increase in the probable costs of long-term care for TBI victims,” Belt said.
Belt noted that his firm often must consult with medical experts to assess these costs of care when seeking to recover damages in accident and injury claims on behalf of clients throughout Alabama.
He said that part of his firm’s mission is to provide helpful information to brain injury victims and their families, such as the blog article detailing this research.
“When our firm is contacted by someone who has been involved in a motor vehicle accident, a fall or any other kind of accident that involves a head injury, we always strongly encourage them to seek appropriate medical care for screening, diagnosis and treatment, which should also often include therapy and rehabilitation,” Belt said.
“The reality is that some injuries, including those to the head and brain, may carry serious consequences but may not be detectable right away. Getting early medical help, in that sense, is crucial.”
